Thought for April

Growth means change and change involves risk, stepping from the known to the unknown.

Reflections: The Phoenix

I know its spring in Minnesota because last week I spotted my first truck pulling a boat! I also noticed the bush outside our front door has developed tiny buds. The chipmunks are once again racing across the back patio playing hide-n-seek in the woodpile, and the nesting materials I left out on the rocks in back have disappeared, only to become a gentle bed for new eggs and hatchlings.

I love the magical and mystical in life. Every winter while the temperatures flirt with the obscene and several feet of snow blanket the earth, I pause to wonder: How can new life come after all of this? Each year I am reminded of the magical and mystical phoenix.

Similar to the changing seasons, I think spirituality is very much like the phoenix. We have times of new awakening, life within the new awakening, and then death as we grow and change yet some more. The wonderful part is the knowing that resurrection is always just around the bend. Death is not forever!

I think of the times I have experienced a death in my life, only to rise, yet again, out of the ashes to face a re-birth. Some of these deaths are literal, such as the loss of my mom and dad. Other deaths are less obvious, such as the loss of sight in my eye, the loss of a spiritual vision, the loss of self-esteem, the loss of a relationship--to name a few. And yet here I am.

The changing seasons serve as a model for our lives through birth, life, death, and resurrection.. This model is evident, not only in our physical lives, but also in our mental, spiritual and emotional lives. Again and again we die to something and then are re-born into something new. The phoenix syndrome happens continually throughout our lives until one day we find ourselves born anew in a realm outside of the planet earth. A time and place with many different names, where we have better understanding of what our lives were about and a deeper experience of the unconditional love of our creator.

Spring is upon us! I wish you renewal in the midst of all of life’s resurrection possibilities.

Have You Called Your Sidekick Lately?

Imagine my delight when one of my long time clients sent me this email:

“Hi Nancy!

I just had to share this with you. I got back from our appointment and my granddaughter asked if I got to my “sidekick” okay. After a hearty laugh—a really hearty laugh, I said yes. Her mother had told her that I was going to see my psychic. We all had a good laugh over her interpretation. Out of the mouths of babes…..”

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the March Newsletter

For those who noticed the newsletter didn’t arrive on your computers last month, let me assure you it was not due to a lack of content. Instead I suffered a severe sprain of my left thumb. Having spent a week of MRI, x-rays, ultra-sound and two visits with a hand specialist, it was determined I would not need surgery. I was, however, limited in many aspects of life that included typing. Following some physical therapy I am improving day by day. I even hope to be back on the drums with LP & the 45’s for our May 2nd gig at Boomers! That reminds me, I’d best call Mae at Center 4 Self Healing for an extra Reiki session next week. J

Metropolitan Community Churches are a forty-year denomination. www.mccchurch.org On their website, under Education and then Small Group Studies, you will find three of Nancy’s workshops. These can be downloaded free of charge and include a complete leader’s guide:

The Eight Essentials For a Healthy and Thriving Congregation is an eight session class designed for churches.

The Eight Essentials For a Healthy and Thriving Congregation; Developing a Strategy for Success is the sequel and provides the ground work for putting the Eight Essentials into action.

Putting a Little Character into Christmas was written to add some educational fun to the Advent Season. Again, it is relative to the Christian church.

Open Hearts, Open Doors; Opening the Doors to the Transgender Community Again, this course is relative to the Christian church and available for free download, complete with a detailed leader’s guide. You will find this one under Transgender (on the far left column of the website).

If you, your church or organization are seeking a workshop, please contact me. I can custom write it for you and teach it myself or write a leadership guide so you can teach it yourself. One such idea is for The Eight Essentials for a Healthy and Thriving Organization. This would be the same concepts without the Christian influence and biblical references.

Curriculum Development (under construction)

Ghost Hunting 201: This class will be the sequel to Ghost Hunting 101, taking participants deeper into the field of paranormal investigating. Ghost Hunting 101 is a prerequisite. Date, Time and Location TBA
